San Francisco welcomed Jazz M
ama with a warm reception at the Red Poppy hosted by Meklet Hadero, with live acoustic music by Sila Mutungi. The evening featured Ndaliko’s films Lamokowang and Jazz Mama followed by a community discussion and reception. Thank you to all the supporters who came out to share Jazz Mama!

Chérie Rivers Ndaliko is a composer whose music is performed internationally, and scholar of African studies (Ph.D., Harvard University). She is a Professor at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Music Department. Her work combines research and social engagement with a central focus on the power of art – specifically film and music – to initiate and mediate sustainable social change in conflict-ridden regions of Africa.
